Cyan wants to make Firmament available for as many players as possible, but those details have not been finalized yet.

A DRM-free version will have to be presented through a store, and will need to be approved by that store before release.

Until that process is complete, there is no detail yet to share about a DRM-free version of the game.

When details are available, they will be shared via a public Kickstarter Update that is also emailed to Kickstarter backers.
