The screen transition speed can be changed in the Myst Options panel. Moving the Transition Slider to the left will decrease the screen transition speed and moving it to the right will increase the screen transition speed. Setting the slider to "Zip" makes the screen changes instant and also disables some of the navigation animations - such as those in elevators - getting you quickly to where you want to go.
